Information about Cleveland's Innerbelt Bridge construction project, alternate routes downtown and +more
In Spring 2011, construction began on I-90's Innerbelt Bridge - a vital link into downtown Cleveland and near-Westside neighborhoods. Two new bridges are being built to replace the current 50-year-old bridge.
The existing I-90 bridge will remain open while the first new bridge is constructed. When the new westbound bridge is complete in September 2013, it will be used to carry both directions of traffic while the old I-90 bridge is demolished and a new I-90 eastbound bridge is designed and built. When traffic is moving in both directions on the new bridge, there will be some entrance and exit ramps that will not be available until the second bridge is complete. Scheduled completion is 2016.
To avoid the construction zone, vehicles may take I-77 and I-490 as alternate routes. Extra lanes are being added in each direction to accommodate extra traffic.
