Application for Volunteer Services

Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer with Positively Cleveland/Spirit of Cleveland (“PC/SOC”). 

All volunteer candidates must submit a completed application, complete the interview process and successfully complete the Positively Cleveland Volunteer Training.

We currently have openings for the following positions:

Volunteer Services:

Job Title: Information Specialist – Visitors Center 
  • Department: Convention & Visitor Services
  • Reports To: Visitor Services Manager
  • Time Requirement: Minimum of two (2) 4 hour shifts per month
  • Summary: Promotes Cleveland + region by informing visitors to the area of travel and tourism events, activities, services, products, and attractions.
  • Duties &Responsibilities: Greets visitors in a welcoming and friendly manner with an eagerness to assist by providing information on travel and tourism related activities in the Cleveland + region·Ensure that all visitors receive an answer to their questions or a resource to help them find what they need·Keep current with events and activities taking place in and around the region·Be creative in promoting member organizations, events, activities, services, products, and attractions·Maintain and develop relationships with our member organizations·Assist staff in keeping brochures stocked and other related material up-to-date·Assist in maintaining the positive image of the Visitors Center by keeping the area clean and orderly·Be punctual and conscientious in meeting your volunteer obligations and inform the Visitors Services Manager of any schedule changes·Attend Positively Cleveland member events,  when possible, to familiarize yourself with members and area attractions·Represent Positively Cleveland in a professional manner at all times·Assist with other projects as assigned
  • Qualifications: Positive attitude, pleasant personality, and the ability to work well with the general public·Basic knowledge of Cleveland + region·Ability to read maps and provide clear and concise directions·Good listening skills to understand questions, problems, and needs of our visitors·Typing and data entry a plus, but not required·Willingness to acquire the knowledge to do your job well
  • Training: Orientation, on-the-job training, Volunteer meetings, and familiarization tours

Job Title: Grant Writer / Fundraising Event Planner

  • Department: Convention & Visitor Services
  • Reports To: Director of Visitor Services
  • Time Requirement: On project basis
  • Summary:   Volunteers are needed to research and write grants as related to projects, programs,
    and services offered by the Spirit of Cleveland. Grant research knowledge and grant
    writing experience necessary.  This position would also include assistance with
    fundraising events and projects.
  • Duties & Responsibilities: Assist in conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sponsors. Perform prospect on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants. Work with Spirit of Cleveland management team to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current  grant programs. Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting. Assist Spirit of Cleveland management team to plan, schedule, and coordinate fundraising events
  • Qualifications: Grant writing experience; Previous experience with non-profit fundraising; Strong written communication skills: ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals; Strong editing skills; Attention to detail; Ability to meet deadlines; Availability to work project from start to finish; Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies; Strong contributor in team environments
  • Training: Orientation to the Spirit of Cleveland is provided.  Candidates must possess previous grant writing and fundraising experience.
